Well written! Your prose matches my concerns. While the immediate future may seem bleak, America is a resilient nation. We will get through this, but the retribution of MAGA supporters will be harsh, and well deserved.

Thanks Mark! Yeah, I think they are counting on people being afraid of their retribution. I've felt their bite even over here. But what choice do we have? Either face the beast or sit back and watch the hanabi as the US implodes.

While I look forward to discussing this topic with you, there are probably several causes for this problem. Systemic racism is certainly one. The lack of regulations to limit dark money in politics (e.g., the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision) is undoubtedly another key factor. Until this fundamental legal error is reversed, the prospects for meaningful change are dim.

No nation is immune from political challenges. The country we call home, Japan, certainly has many problems with its political system and desperately needs more balance among its political parties. However, American politics is awash with too much dark money from special interests. As a result, it feels like ordinary citizens like us have limited influence. I am not advocating giving up. We just need to be aware of the situation so that we can fight back more effectively.
